We’re frequently asked: What about the milk?! Even though our keto cereal has only 1g total carbs per serving(!), we totally get that using *some* kinds of milk adds back in a bunch of carbs, kind of defeating the purpose. No need to worry, though! Here are some low carb milk options to keep your bowl of sweet and crunchy cereal guilt-free.
Unsweetened Almond Milk
This is one of the most common milk alternatives we see people enjoying with the Cereal School. High in Vitamin D and low in calories, unsweetened almond milk is dairy free and doesn’t raise your blood sugar! Except about 1g carbs per cup of unsweetened almond milk.
Unsweetened Macadamia Nut Milk
Another nut milk we love for a low carb milk alternative is unsweetened macadamia nut. Its benefits include vitamin B1, magnesium, and omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. 1 cup of unsweetened macadamia nut milk has 1g carb per serving.
Unsweetened Flax Milk
High in fiber, unsweetened flax seed milk is another nut-free, low carb milk alternative. Flax seed milk is also rich in omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids and is fortified with Vitamins A, B12, and D in addition to calcium. On average, 1 cup of unsweetened flax milk contains 1g carb.
Unsweetened Coconut Milk
Unsweetened coconut milk contains so many benefits including anti-inflammatory properties, strengthening the immune system, and aiding in weight loss because of the healthy fats it contains. This plant-based milk alternative also contains less than 1g carbs per cup!
Heavy Whipping Cream
If you’re focused on getting more healthy fat in your diet, heavy whipping cream could be a creamy low carb option to enjoy with your keto cereal. It’s rich in calcium and Vitamin A and can even help keep your blood sugar stable per meals. Heavy whipping cream typically has 0g carbs per serving.
Unsweetened Pea Protein Milk
This is a great low carb milk option for those with nut allergies! Pea protein milk is also gluten free, soy free, and lactose free. And don’t worry, it doesn’t taste anything like peas. Best of all? 1 cup contains on average 8g protein and less than 1g carbs!
Unsweetened Hemp Milk
Did you know hemp milk contains more calcium than dairy milk!? It also has a higher fat content than other plant-based milks, if you’re keeping to the keto diet. On top of that, you’ll reap the benefits of hemp seeds with omega-3 fatty acids, that help promote heart and brain health. A cup of hemp milk has about 1g carbs.
